“Waitrose Launches Subscription Service for Home Delivery Savings”

Date:

Waitrose has introduced a new subscription service aimed at dedicated supermarket customers who frequently order groceries for home delivery.

The service offers a one-month delivery pass for £8, a six-month pass for £45, and an annual pass for £85. Without a pass, customers can expect to pay between £2 and £4 for a one-off delivery slot.

By opting for the annual pass, Waitrose estimates that customers could save up to £123 per year if they currently spend £4 weekly on delivery slots. Subscribers to the delivery pass will also enjoy early access to Christmas delivery slots, which will become available in September.

Laura Burbedge, Waitrose’s online director, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing its online platform to provide customers with added value and an exceptional shopping experience. Following a successful trial period that saw thousands of customers sign up for Delivery Passes, Waitrose anticipates high demand nationwide as the program expands.

In comparison, Tesco offers a six-month anytime delivery pass for £7.99 per month (£47.94 total) or a 12-month subscription for £6.99 per month (£83.88 total). Alternatively, Tesco provides an off-peak pass priced at £4.99 for six months (£29.94 total) or £3.99 for 12 months (£47.88 total), with a six-month click and collect package available for £2.49 monthly.

Sainsbury’s offers an anytime delivery pass at £7.50 per month, or customers can opt for a six-month subscription at a one-time payment of £43, and a 12-month pass for £80. A midweek pass is priced at £4 per month or £40 for a year.

Waitrose recently reintroduced complimentary tea and coffee for loyalty cardholders, even if they don’t make a purchase. Additionally, the supermarket launched a trial allowing customers to borrow reusable cups for their free coffee, aiming to reduce plastic waste.

Customers participating in the “Borrow a Free Cup” initiative have a week to return the cup to a specified drop-off point or face a £3 fee. To access this service, shoppers only need to scan their MyWaitrose card.

Waitrose informed customers of these updates via email, emphasizing the convenience of receiving a free hot drink without a prior purchase. A company spokesperson highlighted the ongoing reusable cup trial in nine branches, available for MyWaitrose members redeeming their free coffee or cafe customers making purchases.
