Atlético Madrid has secured a loan deal for Canadian forward Jonathan David from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as announced by both clubs on Tuesday. The 26-year-old, hailing from Ottawa, appeared in 46 matches last season for Juventus, where he scored eight goals, and also featured in one game at the beginning of the current season.
David will be vying for playing time in Madrid alongside Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury at the start of the season. Prior to joining Juventus in 2025, David had an impressive record of 109 goals in 232 games for Lille in France, clinching titles in Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup.
As Canada’s highest-scoring men’s player with 42 goals to his name, David is set to join Atlético Ottawa in the Canadian Premier League, which is based in his hometown. Atlético Madrid’s upcoming matches include a fixture against Athletic Club on Saturday and a Champions League clash against Liverpool on September 9.
