Through the Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp., bailout loans are being granted to help airlines offset the impact of surging fuel expenses and facilitate more accessible airfares. The terms stipulate repayment within four years, featuring below-market interest rates to support the carriers.
In a similar vein, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has received $430 million in financial aid in response to the heightened fuel costs following the onset of the Iran conflict in late February. The conflict-induced energy price spikes have led to a significant doubling of jet fuel prices compared to a year ago.
Additionally, Porter Airlines received a $125-million bailout loan from the government to aid its operational sustainability amidst the challenging economic conditions faced by the aviation sector.
