Riverhead, N.L. residents are thrilled by a significant donation made to the local volunteer fire department by Trent Comerford, a former community member and businessman. Comerford, the owner of T&K Services, generously contributed 20 new bunker suits valued at $100,000 to the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department. The donation was celebrated by the community members on Thursday evening.
Former Chief Don Boyles expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting that the department’s old suits were no longer usable. Firefighter Earle Kielly praised the new suits, noting their comfort and lighter weight compared to the previous gear, which has excited the rest of the firefighters.
Sheila Lee, a Riverhead resident and Comerford’s former kindergarten teacher, commended his charitable act, describing him as someone always willing to help others. Lee emphasized the importance of the fire department in protecting the community, especially with the updated protective gear now in place.
Comerford revealed that witnessing the devastation caused by wildfires in neighboring communities inspired him to give back to his own. He emphasized the vital role of volunteer fire departments in maintaining community strength and encouraged other businesses to support rural volunteer fire departments, emphasizing that every contribution, no matter how small, contributes to the province’s resilience and pride.
