“Mirror Launches Party Games: MPs Show Human Side”

Date:

Sophie, a Political Correspondent with the Mirror since December 2022, covers UK politics, focusing on prisons, the justice system, education, and online safety.

Playing games with Members of Parliament is a rare experience, but that’s precisely what’s happening on The Mirror’s new show, Party Games, launched on Saturday, June 16. In this program on The Mirror’s YouTube channel, familiar faces from various political backgrounds join me for a one-of-a-kind party.

The first guest featured is Dawn Butler, the Labour MP for Brent East. The inaugural episode is available for viewing on YouTube. Sporting a mandatory party hat, I spin a wheel of fortune to determine which games to play, each designed to elicit funny anecdotes, emotional moments, and even political banter from MPs.

Games like “Would You Rather?” and “Never Have I Ever?” challenge MPs to make tough choices or share personal experiences. Additionally, rounds such as “Ask Me Anything,” “30-Second Pitch,” and “Hug, Marry, Avoid” provide a platform for guests to discuss issues they are passionate about.

In a time when MPs encounter escalating threats and violence, The Mirror’s show aims to showcase the human side behind the political facade of Westminster. Viewers can now enjoy Party Games on YouTube and catch some highlights from the episode.

During the show, Dawn Butler shared her aspirations for the future, emphasizing her campaign to revitalize high streets by addressing the proliferation of betting shops and adult gaming centers in deprived areas. She advocates for legislative changes to give councils and communities more control over their local environments.
