The Canadian senior women’s basketball team achieved a dominant 85-38 victory over the Philippines during the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico on Wednesday. Yvonne Ejim led the scoring for Canada with 19 points, while Syla Swords contributed 15 points to the win.
Canada took an early lead of 23-4 at Arena Astros and extended their advantage to 46-11 by halftime. The ongoing eight-team qualifier event is set to culminate on Sunday.
Having previously defeated Senegal 72-57 in the tournament opener on Monday, the Canadian team is scheduled to face the host nation, Mexico, on Thursday. The ultimate winner of the tournament will secure a spot in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in February 2028.
