After the passing of Matthew Perry in 2023, fans were left stunned by revelations of his ketamine addiction, which clashed with the beloved character he portrayed on the long-running show “Friends.” To offer a more comprehensive view of the Canadian actor, Netflix has announced a three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry.”
The series will delve into Perry’s evolution from a rising comedic talent to his iconic role on the popular NBC sitcom. Netflix revealed that the documentary will feature never-before-heard accounts from Perry’s inner circle, including lifelong friends and his sister, Mia Perry Bowick, who is a grief specialist.
In a statement, Bowick expressed her journey in coming to terms with Perry’s complexities beyond his on-screen persona and struggles with addiction. Perry tragically passed away at the age of 54 due to a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to offenses related to providing him with the drug, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who sold Perry ketamine, currently appealing a 30-month prison sentence.
Netflix emphasized that the docuseries will not only showcase fond memories of Perry but will also shed light on his personal battles, aiming to honor his legacy of honesty and advocacy. The series is set to premiere on October 27.
