“Fatal Bus Crash in Hungary Claims 12 Polish Lives”

A tragic incident occurred in Hungary when a passenger bus carrying Polish tourists veered off the road and overturned in a ditch, resulting in 12 fatalities and multiple injuries. The accident took place on the eastbound lanes of the M3 motorway near Mezokeresztes, approximately 140 kilometers east of Budapest, around 1 a.m. Authorities reported that the bus driver, who is suspected of falling asleep at the wheel, has been detained.

According to the Hungarian National Directorate for Disaster Management, there were 57 passengers and two drivers onboard the bus. Following the overturning of the bus, several passengers became trapped underneath the vehicle. Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór confirmed that all individuals on the bus were Polish citizens.

The passengers were residents of the southeastern Podkarpackie region returning from a pilgrimage in Bosnia-Herzegovina, as stated by the regional government in Rzeszow, Poland. Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar acknowledged that at least 10 individuals sustained serious injuries in the accident. He extended condolences to the victims’ families and expressed gratitude to the emergency responders deployed to the scene.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event, offering prayers and sympathy to the families and loved ones of the victims.
