A 30-year-old married teacher, Carissa Jane Smith, has been sentenced to a 10-year jail term for engaging in sexual activities with students and providing them with drugs and alcohol. Smith was found to have paid students $100 (£76) or more via cash or CashApp in exchange for sexual favors. Additionally, she allegedly supplied the students with alcohol and marijuana. Smith, a former substitute teacher, was apprehended in November last year and faced 19 charges, including statutory rape and child sex trafficking, to which she admitted guilt in September.
During court proceedings, disturbing accusations surfaced, including an incident where a student claimed Smith coerced him into ejaculating inside her. Another student alleged that Smith destroyed his phone when he mentioned having a video of her engaging in oral sex.
In a separate incident, one student was reportedly lured by a classmate who offered work for money, leading them to Smith’s residence where the abuse took place while the friend waited outside.
Furthermore, it was revealed that Smith’s husband threatened a student with a baseball bat after Smith disclosed being blackmailed with a video showing them smoking marijuana.
One victim disclosed to authorities that he began interacting with Smith in August 2023 while attending middle school, where she was substituting in his class. According to police reports, Smith shared her Snapchat username with students and sent them explicit images of herself.
Law enforcement officials stated that Smith engaged in sexual acts with students at her home and various other locations, including gravel roads, multiple times over a year. The Dixon School District expressed deep concern over Smith’s alleged misconduct, labeling it as “disturbing and distressing.”
