BT has introduced a new method to access the internet, offering more than just basic connectivity. The upcoming Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router from the company not only enhances network strength but also incorporates various security enhancements.
This advanced technology can automatically spot harmful websites, providing users with warnings before potential malware or other online dangers can cause any harm. Additionally, it can detect hacker attempts to breach smart home devices like internet-connected cameras and prevent any suspicious activities before they escalate.
Users will have the ability to keep track of identified threats through the Hub Threat Protect feature within the MyBT app. These improvements aim to enhance online security for households and proactively guard against cyber threats.
In addition to security features, the Smart Hub 3 emphasizes performance. It supports Complete Wi-Fi Plus, which extends signal coverage across the home and reduces dead zones in weaker signal areas.
The Smart Hub 3 boasts a sleek and minimalistic design, featuring a small BT logo at the center, as seen in images on Mirror Online. Notably, the router supports Wi-Fi 6 technology rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard present in some rival devices like EE routers.
Although Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, lower latency, and better reliability, many current devices do not support this standard yet. Hence, Wi-Fi 6 remains more than sufficient for most households, representing a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.
To acquire the new router, BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers, with potential upgrade options available for certain existing users.
Differentiating between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6 enhances wireless performance by boosting speed, efficiency, and capacity compared to Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 takes it a step further with wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, making it particularly beneficial for gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home configurations.
For most users today, Wi-Fi 6 remains an excellent choice, while Wi-Fi 7 provides a more future-proof solution.
