“£50,000 Premium Bonds Win with Just £45 Saved”

Date:

One fortunate individual holding Premium Bonds has secured a £50,000 prize with only £45 in savings. The winner, hailing from the East Riding of Yorkshire, acquired the bond an impressive 51 years ago in September 1974. This £50,000 windfall stands as the third-largest prize available in the Premium Bonds draw, trailing behind £100,000 and £1 million rewards.

In each monthly draw, two individuals are awarded £1 million Premium Bond prizes. The initial £1 million victor in the September 2025 draw resides in County Durham and possesses the maximum £50,000 in Premium Bonds. Their winning bond number, 224BZ748917, was obtained in June 2014. The second £1 million winner, based in Nottingham, also holds £50,000 in Premium Bonds, with their winning bond number, 243VC581367, purchased in April 2015.

NS&I’s Retail Director, Andrew Westhead, extended congratulations to the two new jackpot winners from County Durham and Cumbria, each clinching £1 million in the September draw. This month has been exceptional for Premium Bonds holders, with over six million prizes distributed. It is crucial for all bond holders to ensure their contact information is up-to-date to prevent missing out on prize notifications.

Premium Bonds, a savings product by National Savings & Investment (NS&I), offers a unique system where savings are entered into a monthly prize draw instead of accruing interest. Prizes range from £25 to £1 million, with the odds of winning at 22,000 to 1 for every £1 bond. The maximum amount that can be saved in Premium Bonds is £50,000, with a current prize fund rate equivalent to 3.60%.

Approximately 22.7 million individuals hold Premium Bonds, and prize winners are typically notified via email or text message from NS&I. Winners can opt to have their prize deposited into their bank account or reinvested in more Premium Bonds. Tools like the NS&I online prize checker or the Premium Bonds prize checker app can be used to verify if one has won. Although the prize fund rate has slightly decreased in recent months, two £1 million prizes are still awarded monthly. The most recent reduction in the prize fund rate occurred in the August 2025 draw, set at 3.60%.
